CARTER presents is pleased to announce the group exhibition Memory Flash - a moment in ritual, order and performance.
The curatorial context for Memory Flash is to bring together works exploring ideas and attitudes related to Greek theatrical productions as a means of social improvement. Greek plays visualised the themes of their literature and thus became cultural learning experiences.
The masks they used in drama or ritual helped convey to us another world, kindling our powers of imagination in the pursuit of self-knowledge and also illustrated the notion that the world is a chaotic place, and the best antidotes humans can devise for it are order and balance. A notion that continued through the Enlightenment project, Modernism - in its many forms - and continues today
